MY DEAR SIR, WITH the aid of your MSS. from Chapter I. to XV., I have duly rejoiced with placid Mr. Noah Cockle at the birthof his son Christopher; have taken a merry voyage in the luxurious steamer Calabash; have smiled at Tim Rafferty,. steward, philosopher, and wit; and have pitied the verdant Christopher in his painful and costly induction into common sense and colonial experience. If anything short of actual suffering can wake up suck human shell-fish, it will be a book like yours, with humour enough to make them read it, and enough of the salt of wisdomlurking in it everywhere to improve their mental health before they have done with it.
