Synopsis

""The Pilgrim Fathers: Their Church And Colony"" is a historical account of the Puritan separatists who fled England in the early 17th century in search of religious freedom and established the Plymouth Colony in what is now Massachusetts. Written by Winnifred Cockshott and originally published in 1909, the book provides a detailed examination of the religious beliefs and practices of the Pilgrims, as well as their struggles to establish a successful colony in the New World. Cockshott draws on primary sources such as letters, journals, and court records to provide a richly detailed portrait of this seminal moment in American history. The book is an important resource for anyone interested in the history of the United States, the development of religious freedom, and the story of the Pilgrim Fathers. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Présentation de l'éditeur

HjCRIM FATHERS Dates have been given in New Style, except that for convenience of verification I have given my references to the English State Papers and the Plymouth Records as they are given in the Calendar of State Papers, and in the 1855 edition of the Records respectively. Much of the actual writing has been done out of reach of a good library, and this must be my apology for any imperfect references. I should like to thank Miss Burrows, St Hilda s Hall, and Mr E. A rmstrong, M.A., Queen s College, very gratefully for their advice and suggestions on many technical points.
