Synopsis

""Israel's Messianic Hope: To The Time of Jesus"" is a historical and theological exploration of the Jewish concept of the Messiah leading up to the time of Jesus. Written by George Stephen Goodspeed and first published in 1900, the book delves into the various beliefs and expectations of the Jewish people regarding the coming of a savior figure who would restore Israel to its former glory. Goodspeed examines the development of these beliefs over time, from the early prophetic writings to the post-exilic period, and analyzes the different interpretations of Messianic prophecy that emerged within Judaism. The book also explores the impact of Hellenistic and Roman influences on Jewish Messianic thought, as well as the role of Messianic expectations in the rise of various Jewish sects such as the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Essenes. Ultimately, ""Israel's Messianic Hope"" provides a comprehensive overview of the Jewish concept of the Messiah and its significance in the historical and religious context of ancient Israel.A Study In The Historical Development Of The Foreshadowing Of The Christ In The Old Testament And Beyond. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
