Jiu-Hwa Upshur received her B.A. at the University of Sydney in Australia and Ph.D. in history at the University of Michigan. She is the author of two catalogs on Chinese art and many articles on Chinese history and has lived and traveled extensively in China, Taiwan, and other parts of Asia. She is co-author of THE TWENTIETH CENTURY: A BRIEF GLOBAL HISTORY (5th edition, 1994) and co-editor of LIVES AND TIMES: READINGS IN WORLD HISTORY (1994). Since 1993 she has been a member of the world history committee of the College Board. Janice J. Terry is a graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. She is the author of THE WAFD, 1919-1952: CORNERSTONE OF EGYPTIAN POLITICAL POWER, MISTAKEN IDENTITY: ARAB STEREOTYPES IN POPULAR WRITING, and numerous articles on contemporary events in western Asia. Dr. Terry has lived and traveled extensively throughout western Asia and Africa. She is co-author of THE TWENTIETH CENTURY: A BRIEF GLOBAL HISTORY (5th ed., 1994). In 1990, she received an award for excellence in teaching from the state of Michigan. James P. Holoka received his B.A. from the University of Rochester, his M.A. from SUNY, Binghamton, and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, where he was a Rackham Prize Fellow. He has taught Greek and Latin, classical humanities, and ancient history since 1974; he received a teaching excellence award in 1980 and a scholarly recognition award in 1991. He is a published translator and the author of three textbooks and over sixty scholarly articles and reviews in such journals as American Historical Review, Classical World, Classical and Modern Literature, and Transactions of the American Philological Association. Richard D. Goff received his A.B. from Duke University, his M.A. from Cornell University, and his Ph.D. from Duke University. He has taught courses in western civilization and specializes in teaching twentieth-century world history. He is the author of CONFEDERATE SUPPLY and encyclopedia articles on southern history and culture. In 1983 he received a distinguished faculty service award. He is co-author of THE TWENTIETH CENTURY: A BRIEF GLOBAL HISTORY (5th ed., 1994). George H. Cassar received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of New Brunswick and his Ph.D. from McGill University. He is presently Professor of History at Eastern Michigan University, where he has taught European and military history since 1968. His output is extensive and includes half a dozen books on various aspects of the First World War as well as co-authorship of A SURVEY OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION (1987). In 1985 he received the prestigious Faculty Award for Research and Publication from Eastern Michigan University. He is currently working on a book related to British strategy during the Great War.
