Languages Illustrated in this Work. This little work is the result of an attempt to illustrate both the folk-lore and the language of theB ene-M ukuni and theB a-T onga of Northern Rhodesia. The first are spread north of the Kafubwe, alias Kafukwe, Kafue, the second south of it. Both to a certain extent have intermixed and intermarried with theB a-S ara, theB a-S ori, theB a-I la orB aS ukulumbwe, theB a-T wa, theB a-R amba, theB ene-R wano, the A-C ikunda from theL ower Zambezi, etc. Their folk-lore, partly on account of this amalgamation, parti} owing to the insertion of poetry, which claims the right to use any dialect known to the storyteller, is, likewise, to a certain extent, impregnated with words borrowed from the dialects of their various neighbours. That is why the compiler has thought it advisable to give to this book the somewhat comprehensive title of Samples of Bantu Folk-lore from Northern Rhodesia. The main geographical position of the languages purposely or accidentally illustrated in this book may be seen from the following map :LANGUAGE MAP OF PART OF NORTHERN RHODESIA -4 -A The true native names of this glorious river are Kahuhu, a little paradise for hippotami ;K afubws let it be a true possession, from fuba, possess ;K afukwe, let it bedu ;R wenje, skim it, i.e., catch fish there, etc.
