Synopsis

The Life of Admiral George Dewey is a biographical book written by Will Montgomery Clemens in 1899. The book chronicles the life of Admiral George Dewey, a prominent figure in the United States Navy during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The book begins with Dewey's early life and education, including his time at the United States Naval Academy. It then follows his career in the Navy, which included serving in the Civil War and rising through the ranks to become an admiral. The most significant part of Dewey's career was his command of the Asiatic Squadron during the Spanish-American War. The book details Dewey's planning and execution of the Battle of Manila Bay, which resulted in a decisive victory for the United States and made Dewey a national hero. Beyond his military accomplishments, the book also explores Dewey's personal life, including his marriage and family. It also touches on his political ambitions and his involvement in the controversy surrounding the annexation of the Philippines. Overall, The Life of Admiral George Dewey provides a comprehensive look at the life of one of the most influential figures in American naval history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
