The book explores the world of spiritualism and the controversy surrounding the production of spirit photographs. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many people believed that it was possible to capture images of spirits on photographic plates. This belief led to a booming industry of spirit photography, with many photographers claiming to have captured images of deceased loved ones.Abbott, a magician and skeptic, was interested in the phenomenon and set out to investigate the claims of spirit photographers. He conducted experiments and analyzed the photographic plates, ultimately concluding that the images were the result of fraud and manipulation. The book provides a detailed account of Abbott's investigation and his final solution to the spirit portrait mystery.
