Several theories have already been advanced by different critics in explanation of these remarkable psychic revelations. Since the revelations were received by Mr. Louis Benjamin, known throughout this volume as the instrument, the thought would naturally arise that he is the real author of the book. If this supposition is not tenable the tendency would be to think of Dr. IW atson as a possible source of the communications throughi some process of hypnotism or telepathy. Other possibilities are that the statements in this book were obtained from the minds of the whole circle, the sub-conscious mind in general, the universal consciousness of the spirits of the so-called dead, or finally the personalities who are actually claimed to have spoken. Other 1theories, however, have been advanced, many of them being modifications of the above.
