Synopsis
This is an EXACT reproduction of a book published before 1923. This IS NOT an OCR'd book with strange characters, introduced typographical errors, and jumbled words. This book may have occasional imperfections such as missing or blurred pages, poor pictures, errant marks, etc. that were either part of the original artifact, or were introduced by the scanning process. With the Pontifical Office of a Bishop in his own Diocese compiled from the Caeremoniale Episcoporum to which are added various other functions and copious explanatory notes. All is harmonized with the latest decrees of the Sacred Congregation of Rites. The Introduction states: “Advantage has been taken of the opportunity afforded by the call for yet another edition, to revise and improve the present work, and thus in some degree make it still more worthy of the patronage so kindly bestowed upon it. Those chapters marked with an asterisk (*) in the table of Contents, have been translated from the Esposizione delle Sacre Ceremonu of JOSEPH BALDECHI, Master of Ceremonies of St. Peter's, and some time Prefect of the Exercises at the Mission-house in Rome. The rest of the Volume has been compiled from the Pontificale, Caeremoniale Episcoporum, Memoriale Rituum, of Benedict XIII" the Clementine Instructions, the Decrees of the Sacred Congregation of Rites, and other authentic sources which may be said to comprise the Law of the Church on the Ceremonial of her Worship, For the solution of doubtful points, and where amplification was deemed desirable, the beet authorities on Liturgical Science have been freely cited. A list of Authors' names, and of the particular editions of their works consulted, is given. Amongst the more recent Commentators on the Rubrics, the name of P. MARTINUCCI, Prefect of the Apostolic Ceremonies at Rome, is deservedly held in the highest esteem.”
