The success of the first edition has rendered any material alteration in plan unadvisable. In the present rewriting, however, the scope of the work has been enlarged by several added chapters, as well as by numerous minor additions throughout. Statements and tests already presented have been critically examined and revised. As it now stands, the book presents an outline of Qualitative Analysis with analytical schemes for both simple salts and complex mixtures, tests for the A lkaloids, the principles of Volumetric Quantitative A nalysis, and a section on the three organic classes of chief physiological interest the Carbohydrates, the Proteids, and the Fats. The cliiiical section of the book, treating of the Blood, the Urine, the Gastric Fluid, Milk, and Water, is written in more detail and includes, with the clinical tests possible with limited laboratory equipment, some of the more elaborate and exact methods used in advanced research. The appendix, together with tables of weights and measures, contains a list of the acid radicals, a list of the common salts arranged according to solubility, and, finally, a list of reagents, with formulae and methods of preparation.
