This is an elementary book intended for the higher grammar grades or the early part of the high-school course. It is all devoted to a study of important principles in physics, and it is expected that such a study will pave the way for a more comprehensive work in physics which is to follow. But, even if the study of physics is pursued no further than that presented in this book, the student will have gained some important fundamental ideas which will be of great service to him during his life.
There appears to be a great deal of confusion as to the proper presentation of physics in the high-school. Results do not seem to be satisfactory as the subject is generally taught. Various remedies are being proposed from time to time, but none have met with general acceptance.
