Revelation, but the constitution of Nature. It may be called Evolution with an if. The following pages will endeavor to show that there are as many ifs in Nature as in the Evolution of Spiritual Man, and that these ifs have a mutual correspondence. This little monosyllable is a very important word. It is the indispensable link between cause and effect; it connects the engine with the train. Nature would be nothing without it, neither would the Spiritual World. It is a conspicuous word in the Bible. If ye keep my commandments, is the emphatic statement of Jesus. The if in Nature connects a personal and immanent God, as the origin of all Life, with all that follows. The most unwilling minds are obliged to acknowledge that link. The same is true in the Spiritual World. Given a supernatural Cause, the effects as revealed in the Bible and confirmed in human experience are no more varied than in Nature. The levels and lifts in the latter are duplicated in the former; the closeness of this identity will be shown later on.
