The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, Piety, and Charity was incorporated in 1805. It sought at first to do the work for which it was organized by circulating books and other publications. During the last few years it has endeavored to accomplish the same object by assisting young men to prepare for the work of the ministry. It now returns to its former custdm, and offers this little volume as a first venture in the new departure, to be followed by others in the same line, should the demand of the public seem to justify it.
