Synopsis

""Manders: A Tale of Paris"" is a novel written by Elwyn Alfred Barron and published in 1899. The story is set in Paris and follows the life of a young Englishman named Manders. Manders moves to Paris with his mother and sister after the death of his father. He becomes enamored with the city and its culture, but also becomes involved with a group of bohemian artists and writers who lead him down a dangerous path of excess and debauchery. Manders struggles to balance his love for Paris and his desire to fit in with this group, while also trying to maintain his own morals and values. The novel explores themes of identity, temptation, and the dangers of succumbing to peer pressure. It is a vivid portrayal of Paris in the late 19th century and the cultural and social movements that were taking place at the time. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Présentation de l'éditeur

Handera began life he was eight years old. This statement does not warrant the inference that he had put off being born until he was ready for string-top and jack-knife. Mandera conformed to the conventionalities at birth, and devoted the usual time to clamorous and practical opposition to those demands of life and infantage which seem to strike incipient men and women as so many absurd devices for their discomfort and annoyance. Doubtless, were it left to the choice of the average boy, there would be a prompt reformation of natal conditions, and man would be born of woman as Minerva sprang from Jove, fully equipped for the moral and physical arena, where his energies are to be tried and defied. The human economy, indeed, already demands of science some such improvement upon the principal methods of the race in the matter of its self-multiplication.

Présentation de l'éditeur

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
