The newer terms in vogue have been substituted for the older ones which were current when the first edition was prepared. It is hoped that the numerous changes thus necessitated by assimilating the terminologj with that of other more recent writers will lighten the students task. While the Principles of Surgery cannot alter, our applications of them must vary as knowledge advances. Much has been added by the author regarding the significance of leukocytosis, the treatment of sepsis, of tetanus, and the after-effects of general anesthesia and spinal anesthesia. Some portions of the book have been rewritten and others have been considerably modified, oftentimes only the mere omission or addition of a single word being requisite. A ugust, 1905.
