That Printer of Udell's is a novel written by Harold Bell Wright, first published in 1903. The story is set in the small town of Corinth, located in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri, USA. The main character, Dick Falkner, is a young man who has had a troubled past and is trying to start a new life. He arrives in Corinth and finds work at the local newspaper, the Clarion. The owner of the Clarion, John Udell, is a devout Christian who has a strong influence on the town. Dick begins to attend church and becomes a Christian himself, which transforms his life. However, he faces challenges as he tries to live out his new faith, including opposition from his old friends and conflicts with his new co-workers at the Clarion. The novel explores themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the power of faith to transform lives.1902. Wright, served as a minister prior to beginning his artistic and writing career. This is the book that young Ronal Reagan read when he was 11 years old and promptly decided that he wanted to become an evangelical Christian, informing his Mother that he wanted to be baptized. Reagan obviously identified with the protagonist of this story who like Reagan was the son of an alcoholic father and who through the power of faith became a better man. Dick Falkner came to Boyd City to land a job. But everyone in the bustling mining town refused Dick. Everyone, that is, except George Udell, a printer who took pity on him. In the end, Dick and George confess their sins and profess faith in Christ and the book concludes with his marching off to Washington to assume a political career. Ring a bell? This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
