Synopsis
A Double Thread is a novel written by Ellen Thorneycroft Fowler and published in 1899. The story revolves around the life of a young woman named Cicely Jocelyn, who is the daughter of a wealthy baronet. Cicely is a talented artist and is passionate about her work. However, her father disapproves of her pursuing a career as an artist and wants her to marry a wealthy man.Cicely falls in love with a struggling artist named Leonard Bligh and they get engaged. However, Cicely's father disapproves of the match and Leonard is forced to leave town. Cicely is heartbroken but continues to pursue her art. She meets a wealthy man named Sir Francis Ashleigh and they become friends. Sir Francis is also interested in Cicely romantically and proposes to her.Cicely is torn between her love for Leonard and her desire for financial security. She eventually decides to marry Sir Francis but is still in love with Leonard. The novel explores the themes of love, art, and social status.
