Synopsis

The Appendix to Five Lectures on Attrition, Contrition, and Sovereign Love is a book written by William George Ward in 1858. The book is a supplement to Ward's previous work, which explores the concepts of attrition, contrition, and sovereign love in the context of Christian theology. The appendix offers additional insights and perspectives on these topics, including discussions on the relationship between faith and works, the nature of divine grace, and the role of the Holy Spirit in the process of sanctification. Ward draws upon a range of theological sources, including the writings of St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to provide a comprehensive and nuanced analysis of these complex theological concepts. Overall, the Appendix to Five Lectures on Attrition, Contrition, and Sovereign Love is an important work for anyone interested in the history and development of Christian theology, and offers valuable insights into the nature of Christian faith and practice. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Présentation de l'éditeur

Lectures. By printing them I have obtained great advantage of the following kind. I have been enabled to see far more clearly than before, what are those principles which I may take for granted in the controversy, and what are those on the other hand which I must endeavour to elucidate and explain; what are those arguments which will be generally admitted, and what those on the other hand which require to be corroborated and defended against objections ;in one word, what are points of general agreement, and what are points which my opponents will call in question. I shall be able therefore to give my undivided attention, to those particulars in my reasoning which really need it. I have been much consoled to find, so far as the reception given to my Lectures enables me to judge, that the view which I oppose lias a less wide reception among Catholics of the day than I had apprehended. At the same time, I am very far from denying that many persons, and those too persons whose opinions deserve very great respect and deference, differ in greater or less degree some differ totally and very decidedly from the propositions which I support.

Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive collection. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Whilst the books in this collection have not been hand curated, an aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. While some of these imperfections may have appeared in the original work, others may have resulted from the scanning process that has been applied. However, our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. While some publishers have applied optical character recognition (OCR), this approach has its own drawbacks, which include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with an experience that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic book, and that the occasional imperfection that it might contain will not detract from the experience.
