Goethe's Reineke Fuchs: The First Five Cantos is a book written by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe in 1901. It is a retelling of the medieval fable of Reynard the Fox, which has been a popular story in European folklore for centuries. Goethe's version of the story follows the cunning and sly fox, Reineke, as he navigates through a world of anthropomorphic animals and outwits his enemies with his wit and charm. The book is divided into five cantos, each of which tells a different part of the story. The first canto introduces the main characters and sets the stage for the rest of the story, while the remaining cantos follow Reineke's adventures as he works to outsmart his foes and gain power and wealth. Throughout the book, Goethe uses the story of Reineke to comment on human nature and the corrupting influence of power. This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work.
