R.B. Girdlestone (1836-1923) studied at Charterhouse, London, and Christ Church, Oxford. He was head of the translation department of the British and Foreign Bible Society, principal of Wycliffe Hall, and minister of St. John's in Downshire Hill, Hampstead.
