The upper figure indicates the number of pulses in each measure, and the lower shows which kind of note Crotchet, Minim, c. stands for a pulse. This lower figure is necessary, because of the several ways of representing a pulse. In Time Signatures the following figures represent the several notes :C rotchet 4. Minim =2. Quaver =8.
