First published in 1892, this engrossing tale introduces us to the charming Mabel Frost Fairfax. She arrives in the village of Granville as the newly-appointed school teacher. Through her experiences, Alger presents a vivid and life-like picture of village life. His portrayal of human emotions and relations is highly perceptive. Delightful!
