Giles, he received from the hands of President Jefferson, a commission of Captain of Light Artillery iq the army of the United States. Jefi ersou presenting Scutt his Comiuission. SCOTT GOES TO THE NIAGARA FRONTIER IN 1812. In July, 1812, Scott received the commission of lieutenantcolonel in the 2d artillery, (I zard sregiment,) and arrived on theN iagara frontier, with the companies ofT owson and Barker. He took post at Black Rock, to protect the navy-yard there established.
