Addresses presented in the following volume were delivered in Buffalo on the seventh of February, 1915, and the interest expressed in them by the very large audience that was present and by the press of Buffalo and elsewhere was evidence that the speakers, all representative men, had made noteworthy contributions to the analysis of the war conditions in Europe and that their utterances were deserving of preservation in book form. Papers of this kind, presented by writers who have authoritative knowledge of the subject-matter and who are keenly interested in the result of a pending contest, belong to what may be called contemporary history, and while of immediate service for the readers of to-day, possess importance also for later generations.
