The object of this book is to give a short but thorough course in inorganic qualitative analysis for the use of students who have only a limited time to devote to the subject. Experience has shown that Fresenius manual, while invaluable as a work of reference, is too complicated and voluminous for the beginner, the great mass of information there given confusing him, and he becomes discouraged at his inability to assimilate it. In preparing the present work the idea has been, while still following the general plan of Fresenius, to give only that which seemed essential to a clear understanding of the subject and to make it as concise as possible.
