The Catechism of Sacred History now presented to the Catholic public will be found, it is hoped, a useful little book for the lower classes in Catholic schools. There were, it is true, other Catechisms of Sacred History in use in our schools, but none of them answered exactly the purpose for which this was intended, some being too large, and too elaborate for junior classes, whilst others had the answers entirely too long, so as to fatigue the memory of the young learner. The Catechism now offered has been carefully compiled from authentic sources, and has been made as complete a compendium of Sacred History, nd in as simple a form, as could well be effected. It ill be see., that, in order to complete the history of he New Testament, a short account of the labors and death of the several apostles has been added to the Scriptural narrative, so as to bring out more fully and more clearly the connection between ancient Sacred History, as contained in the Bible, and modern Sacred History, which is that of the Church, commonly called Ecclesiastical History.
