Synopsis

Systematic Psychology: Prolegomena is a comprehensive book written by Edward Bradford Titchener, a prominent psychologist of the early 20th century. The book is a prologue to Titchener's larger work, Systematic Psychology, and lays out the philosophical foundations of psychology as a science. Titchener begins by defining psychology as the study of conscious experience, and argues that it is a natural science that should be studied using introspection. He outlines the basic principles of introspection and the methods used to study mental processes, including perception, attention, memory, and thought. The book also covers the philosophical underpinnings of psychology, including the relationship between mind and body, free will and determinism, and the nature of causality. Titchener argues that psychology should be based on a rigorous scientific method, and that theories should be tested using empirical evidence. Overall, Systematic Psychology: Prolegomena is a foundational text in the field of psychology, providing a thorough overview of the principles and methods of the science of the mind. It is an essential read for anyone interested in the history and development of psychology as a discipline. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
