Emergency medical services (EMS) can be a dangerous profession. EMS practitioners are 2 times more likely to die on the job and 3 times more likely than the average worker to miss work as a result of injury. A Proactive Approach to Safety EMS Safety trains EMS practitioners to be active participants in their own safety. Participants are taught to identify and remove the hazards that can appear during daily tasks, from offensive drivers to violent encounters to chronic stress. Participants are given practical strategies that they can apply in the field, from situational awareness to defensive driving to verbal deflection. Finally, participants are taught how to strengthen their resiliency skills in order to combat both chronic and critical incident stress.
