O autor situa a narra��o no ano de 1128, dias antes da batalha de S. Mamede que op�s o ex�rcito de D. Afonso Henriques ao da sua m�e D. Teresa. Assim podemos assistir �s tramas medievais e � estrat�gia usadas por ambos os ex�rcitos, assim como sabemos o porqu� do �dio que D. Afonso Henriques nutre pelo conde Peres de Trava, amante da m�e. Nisto tudo, um homem tem um papel fundamental, algu�m que todos menosprezam, algu�m que aparentemente nada valia: D. Bibas, o Bobo da corte. Alexandre Herculano de Carvalho e Ara�jo (1810 — 1877) foi um escritor, historiador, jornalista e poeta portugu�s da era do romantismo.

“O Bobo” is a historical novel by Alexandre Herculano, first published in 1843. The story takes place in the year 1128, days before the battle of S. Mamede. The novels shows the contemporary plots and strategies used by both armies, as well as the reason for the hatred that D. Afonso Henriques has for Count Peres de Trava, his mother's lover.
