Xn the following letters I have related what I have feen. Of the anecdotes with which they abound, there are none of which I myfelf doubt the authenticity. There are no difquifitions on commerce and politics ;I have given fads, and the Reader may comment for himfelf. My poetical imitations are made with freedom, but I have always done juftice to the originals by annexing them. The want of proper types obliged me to adopt in the Portugueze the improvement of the Spanifh A cademy, and change the cfubfcribed into z. Where I have copied from early writers, the early fpelling is preferved.
