Synopsis

Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Where the Greek form of a proper name differs from that employed in the Old Testament, the Hebrew form is given in English in the margin. For example, Matt. i. 8. Ozias. Heh. A haziah. 10. In the Old Testament, where the word Lord stands for Jehovah, it is printed in small capitals ;but where it stands for A dohn, or, A dohnay, i. e., Lord, or Master, it is printed in the ordinary type. See Psalm ex. 1. Tlie same plan has been adopted in this Edition of the New Testament to intimate where the word Lord is used in a sense correspondin with Jehovah, and where it is a title of the Lord Jesus. 11. Quotations and speeches are shown by the usual marks () ;thus intimating their commencement, continuance, and close, for the assistance of the reader. And parenthetic quotations and speeches are shown by the marks (). 12. The chronology adopted is that of the Authorised Version. 13. The localities of the incidents recorded are inserted in the margin. These are taken from the Text. 14. Li a few important cases variations in the Greek text are noticed at the foot of the page, with the MS. and Editorial authorities. 15. Variations in translation are given at the foot of the page, but only in those instances in which it is believed that the perfection, harmony, and beauty of the Divine original may be thereby more distinctly shown. But all unnecessary departures from the long-familiar and justly-valued language of the Authorised Version have been carefully avoided. 16. Wherever a word in the translation is proposed to be altered, the original Greek is invariably given ;so that, to those who imderstand the language, it may speak for itself; and the necessity for a constant reference to the Greek Testament is obviated. 17. Without undervaluing the critical researches of modern times, much deference is undoubtedly due to the combined judgment of our venerable translators ;the
