Synopsis
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

While it is extremely desirable that every prospective pharmacist should have a course in Latin at least as extended as the ordinary high school course, still the fact remains that very many students enter schools of pharmacy with no training in Latin whatever. And after entrance unfortunately but little time can be devoted to language study. A certain modicum of Latin, however, is absolutely essential to the understanding of pharmaceutical terminology and to the proper handling of prescriptions. This book is designed to furnish that necessary modicum. The book is divided into two parts. The first consists of nineteen lessons presenting in progressive arrangement the necessary instruction in forms and syntax, and excluding everything which, however desirable and helpful, is not of immediate practical use to the pharmacist. To each lesson has been added for purposes of practice a vocabulary and a double set of exercises. A special series of lessons deals with the writing and reading of prescriptions. The second part is intended primarily for purposes of reference to be used both by the student in the school of pharmacy and by the druggist at the prescription counter. It contains word classifications, a complete list of abbreviations in common use, an analysis of the pharmaceutical terminology, and a comprehensive Latin-E nglish andE nglish-L atin dictionary.
