The following pages were written to supply a want, felt by the writer as a Parish Minister, of a short treatise mwhich the doctrine of the Church on Baptism, and her application of that doctrine to the case of all Baptized I nfants, should be proved from Scripture alone; and the objections commonly urged against it, fully and fairly stated, and answered on principles which the objectors themselves acknowledge. The writer has endeavoured to shew, that every Scripture reason for the practice of Infant baptism, is equally a reason for believing tliat God llesses all I nfants, in that Sacrament, with the grace He has annexed to the outward sign. He has entitled the Tract, The Sacrament of Responsibility, because he finds that the Apostles (and especially St Paul), hold all the Baptized responsible for grace received at their Baptism, as will be abundantly manifest from an attentive perusal of Romans vi.; 1C orinthians vi. x. xii.; Colossians ii. iii. He would refer the reader who desires to pursue further the line of Scripture argument entered upon in this Tract, to his subsequent work u The Second A dam and the New Birth. (B ell and Daldy.)
