As foon as Mr. Rich came from His Grace s Secretary (who had fent for him to receive the before mention d Order) he came to my Lodgings, and acquainted me with the Orders he had received. Upon the Lord Chamberlain scoming to Town, I was confined by Sicknefs, but in four or five Days, lwent abroad on purpofe to wait on His Grace with a faithful and genuine Copy of this Piece, excepting the Errata sof the Tranfcriber. It was tranfcrib din great Hafte by Mr. Stede the Prompter of the Playhoufe, that it might be ready againft His Grace s Return from the Country. As my l Unefs at that time would not allow me to read it over, I fince find in it many fmall Faults, and here and there a Line or two omitted. But left it fhould be faid I had made any one Alteration from the Copy I deliver dto the Lord Chamberlain: I have caufed every Error in the faid Copy to be printed (literal Faults excepted) We refer the Reader to the Quarto Edition for thofe Errors and Emendations, which are trifling, and publifli donly tor the Author s Juftificationj in re Ution 50 ihe Copy he left wish she Lord Chamberlain.
