At the risk of making a still greater hodge-podge I have ventured to insert some generalizations on geologic history and processes such as seem to explain the origin and govern the distribution of important minerals. These new suggestions have come from a list of persons and experiences too long to enumerate. To the members of the Mining and Metallurgical Society of America and of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers; to many members and officials of the U. S. Geological Survey, U. S. Bureau of Mines and the Pan-A merican Congress; to many managers, lawyers and financiers; and, not least, to many employes and workers in mines I offer the impression they have made upon me.
