Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

The first part of this little collection contains some specimens of the present Cornish provincial dialect, which is but Uttle known out of the county; and even there is gradually wearing away in the towns; and is scarcely to be heard in its fu Urichness, except in the mining districts, or in the parts most remote from traffic and intercourse with strangers. To be properly appreciated it should be heard, being accompanied by a peculiar intonation or singing accent; a species of recitative, which has rather a pleasing effect, though it may render the dialect less intelligible to those unaccustomed to it. It is quite distinct from the antient Cornish language, which was a dialect of the Celtic, and very similar to the Weldi. This has been obsolete as a living language for some centuries.
