(2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Review,1 aimed at presenting, in a necessarily imperfect shape, a slight sketch of one of the loftiest and noblest Christian figures of this century. They are now reproduced unchanged, but in a more permanent form, partly in obedience to kindly advice and too highly flattering requests, but more especially because I wished to answer certain criticisms to which these modest articles have given rise. Were I to consult only my own wishes, and, I will add, my own interests, I should most probably do better in not seeking to prolong the naturally ephemeral existence of a production called forth by a special occasion. When one has cherished for long, 1T hey appeared under the title Manning. I. Les A nnees Protestantes; II. Les A nnees Catholiques, in the Revue des Deux Mondes, May i and 15, 1896.
