Synopsis
Ambrose Vise’s indefatigable life spanned the early defining years of Australia and the Australian spirit—and he lived it to the fullest. After almost becoming a lawyer and frustrated with the opportunities available to him, Ambrose Vise left England for Australia only 100 years after Captain Cook had landed, following the promise of the Australian gold rush. ‘Of course, I knew nothing of the conditions of life there, or that most of the goldfields had already been worked out...’ Join Ambrose E. Vise as he recounts the story of his life since leaving England in 1888 on the Garonne as a 24 year old. Ambrose recounts vividly his life as a shearer, storekeeper, gold miner, and fruit farmer, and father in outback Queensland.
