Présentation de l'éditeur

Riding on the Flat and A cross Country, 47 illustrations of which have been utilised. The present work contains 260 illustrations. In the former book I made no mention of hunting ;because, when I wrote it, my riding experience, except when I was a boy in I reland, had been chiefly confined to steeplechasing, racing, schooling and pig-sticking in I ndia, and to military riding when I was a subaltern in a field battery. On my return toE ngland in 1892, after teaching Boers and other residents inS outh Africa how to break in horses, I was fortunately able to spend two seasons in Leicestershire and one inC heshire. The knowledge gained during these three years impressed me so much with the fact that riding in England is almost inseparable from hunting, that I determined to combine the two subjects as soon as I could collect sufficient fresh material and new illustrations to justify the change of the former title toR iding and Hunting. During the last four years, I made a special study of the Continental system of military riding. Being in no way a hound man, I sought and obtained the valuable aid of Captain King-K ing, late 13th Hussars, whom I had the pleasure of knowing atM elton Mowbray.

Présentation de l'éditeur

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
