This book has not been written for lawyers, nor for professional students of the law, but for boys and girls in our secondary schools. I ts purpose is to show how the rules of law, governing ordinary business transactions, have been developed, and to tell what they are. Technical law terms have been discarded as far as possible. When they have been used, care has been taken to explain and illustrate their meaning, so as to render them easily intelligible to every attentive student. The author believes that the average high-school boy or girl can acquire an accurate knowledge of the essential principles of business law if these are set forth in clear, lucid, popular language. He has endeavored so to present them in the following pages. He has no idea that a mastery of this book will fit the student for a bar examination, or will enable him to be his own lawyer. He has the conviction, however, that it will give the student a fair acquaintance with those legal principles and ideas which are involved in ordinary business affairs, and that it will help him to know when he ought to consult a lawyer, in order to avoid business pitfalls.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is an invaluable exploration of the legal rules governing everyday business dealings. It takes a novel approach, explaining complex legal concepts in a clear and accessible manner. Aimed at high-school students, the text uses non-technical terms to introduce the fundamental principles of business law. These principles are set against the backdrop of the development of business law itself. The author traces the growth of the law merchant out of legal customs, and its eventual acceptance into English common law. The importance of judicial decisions in the formation of legal rules is stressed, along with the concepts of consideration and mutual assent. The historic evolution of the law is shown to have developed legal rules that are grounded in fairness and common sense, providing a framework that enables individuals to engage in business with a level of certainty. The book concludes with a discussion of the significance of contract law, which ensures that agreements are honored, and the consequences of contract breaches. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
