Clarence Seward Darrow (1857 – 1938) was an American lawyer, leading member of the American Civil Liberties Union. Notable for his wit, he became one of the most famous American lawyers and civil libertarians, and a very influential legal mind in the first part of the 20th century. His books on crime and punishment, as well as on the morality and origins of the system, are classics of the libertarian movement, and a cry for attention about all that is wrong in the legal system. His two more famous books, Crime: Its Cause and Treatment, and Resist Not Evil, —books that will change the way you see many things—, are now part of the Timeless Wisdom Collection.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. Delving into the depths of human conduct, this book challenges the deeply ingrained belief in the necessity of punishment for wrongdoing. The author, a staunch advocate of non-resistance, maintains that violence and force only perpetuate suffering and injustice. Drawing upon historical and philosophical insights, the book traces the evolution of punishment from its roots in aggression to its present-day manifestations within the criminal justice system. It argues that true justice and social order can only be achieved through compassion, forgiveness, and the rejection of violence as a means of control. The book offers a profound and thought-provoking exploration of the nature of crime and punishment, inviting readers to question long-held assumptions and embrace a more humane approach to human interactions.
