The more recent developments of the art have not been included, for the advent of steelengraving, of lithography, and of modern mechanical processes has caused so wide a revolution in the reproductive arts that nineteenth-century engraving appears to require a separate history of its own and an entirely different treatment. The illustrations are all made to the exact size of the originals, though in some cases a detail only of the original is reproduced.
