In The Peddler, a sharp-witted stranger upends a roguishly lively coastal manor with wit, danger, and a stolen treasure.
A big, quarrelsome family lives amid wealth, bright color, and frequent bickering. The Kirklands are hard to tame, yet they also show warmth and loyalty in their own way. Into this world walks a charismatic peddler who seems to know more than he should about everyone around him. When their safe is found empty and interest turns toward motive and truth, the tension shifts from boastful stories to uneasy trust.
The book blends sharp humor with a suspenseful sense of who loves whom and who is bending the truth. It follows quick, cinematic scenes of family life, frothy social bravado, and a mind as quick as a knife blade for reading people and trouble alike.
- A vivid, larger-than-life family with lively dialogue and risky missteps
- A charming, calculating central figure who stirs trust and doubt in equal measure
- A dramatic mix of wit, intrigue, and domestic upheaval in a single, fast-paced arc
- A narration that favors character, atmosphere, and unpredictable twists
Ideal for readers who enjoy witty social satire, intricate family dynamics, and suspenseful, character-driven plots.

Mr. Kirkland (known as the squire to the oldtimers) appeared indifferent to his childrens escapades, and as they reached adult age appeared to find an agreeable diversion in them. So it had come to pass that the old manorhouse was regarded obliquely by the more soberminded of the community. This did not apply to the new, rich, and fashionable set of whom the elaborate palaces had more recently sprung up from most of the dominating points both along the shore of the bay and inland. These were invariably eager to make acquaintance with the Kinky Kirklands (as the boys were dubbed at Harvard), and this was in no way difficult, as this family, the old aristocratic one of the countryside, still preserved a good many Colonial traditions of hospitality and welcome to what it had come to regard in the light of its domain. The estate itself portrayed its patrician character.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book follows the Kirkland family, a prominent and contentious clan living on their ancestral estate on the rugged coast of New England. Known for their strong wills and hard-drinking ways, the family has long been a source of both admiration and disparagement in their community. However, their antics take a dangerous turn when they encounter a mysterious peddler driving a bizarre truck filled with an assortment of household goods and mechanical devices. The peddler's enigmatic presence and uncanny ability to solve problems quickly draw the attention of the Kirklands, particularly the strong-willed Diana. As the peddler becomes embroiled in the family's chaotic lives, he finds himself not only repairing their broken machines but also mediating their conflicts and challenging their self-destructive behavior. Through the author's vivid and engaging prose, this book explores the complex dynamics of family relationships, the dangers of unchecked privilege, and the transformative power of human connection. Ultimately, it offers a profound meditation on the choices we make and the consequences they have for ourselves and those around us.
