Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book critiques and challenges prevailing historical theories on the kings of ancient Israel. Applying source criticism and literary and historical analytical methods, the author argues that traditions of Saul and David were not preserved as consecutive history, but rather are the result of editorial and continuous literary processes that took place at a significantly later date. The author concludes that the traditions are drawn from two main groups, with the older sources stemming not from the 11th and 10th centuries BC but rather from the 8th century BC and beyond. Literary and historical examination thus invites a reconstruction of the period and reconsideration of the history of the monarchy in ancient Israel. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
