The present work has been undertaken, at the request of many members of the Profession, for the purpose of providing a text-book on the subject of Auditing, which should be at once practical and comprehensive. No pains have been spared to arrive at this result, and we hope the book will be found worthy of its title.

Third Edition. The opportunity has been taken to bring the text thoroughly up to date and to incorporate reference to all cases of importance affecting Auditors and their duties, decided since the issue of the last edition. In view of the fact that it is anticipated that Excess Profits Duty will shortly be taken off, no reference has been made to this subject as affecting A uditors. As this book had gone to press before the issue of the 4% Funding Loan and Victory Bonds, it has not been possible to refer to these in the section dealing with British Government Securities. Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. The book dives into the principles and practices of auditing, a practice that has evolved with the expansion of trade and commerce, from its origins in verifying public accounts to the modern examination of business ledgers. The author posits that an audit should not only examine cash transactions but should also extend to a company's Balance Sheet. Auditors are responsible for detecting fraud and preventing errors, providing moral deterrence by their presence. Beyond identifying fraud or errors of omission or commission, they also must be able to differentiate between clerical and fundamental errors of principle. The presence of an auditor acts as a safeguard against fraud and other accounting irregularities and can give shareholders and the public confidence in a company's financial reporting.
