Excerpt from Scientific Papers
And the electrical process which I devised for recording the accomplishment Of a definite amount of compression could not be employed, because it was impossible to lead insulated wires into either of my compression-chambers. This was much to be regretted, as I know of no method but this by which we can be absolutely certain of the temperature at which the operation is conducted.

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the physical properties of fresh and saltwater through a series of experiments conducted by the author. Building upon earlier studies, the author sought to determine whether the compressibility of water changes with different pressures. The author designed an improved apparatus for applying high pressure to water and mercury along with other innovative methods. A key finding was that compressibility diminishes as pressure increases. This held true over all ranges of the several temperatures at which the author experimented. The author also examined methods for determining the maximum-density point of water under pressure and studied related phenomena such as the change in temperature produced by compression and the effect of pressure on the expansion of water at temperatures near its maximum-density point. The book concludes with a summary of the results and their significance. The work presented in this book has important implications for understanding the behavior of water in various natural and industrial settings. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781330155356_0
