What is most International is nearest the I deal. In publishing this Dictionary of theN eutral Language, something must be premised as to the origin of the latter, for very few are aware that there exists a well organized international society, to which the language owes its origin. After many fruitless attempts and all by eminent scholars had been made in the course of the last three hundred years to construct an artificial language that would serve to facilitate inter. course between persons of different nationalities, in the year 1879 iR ev. J. M. Schleyer of Litzelstetten, Baden, succeeded in excogiI tating such a language, called Volapiik, which at the time attracted general notice, since the grammar of this language, in contradistinction to the difficult grammars of the living languages, is surprisingly simple; in a few hours the rules could be acquired fand correspondence immediately entered upon with the aid of a i dictionary. This simplicity caused many to learn the interesting language, land after a few years Volapiik was so widely spread that there were ihundreds of Volapiik clubs, and over twenty Volapiik papers were published.

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a comprehensive collection of international words - those often borrowed from notable languages such as English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Latin, and Italian - along with derivatives and compounds providing an in-depth analysis of their makeup and use across languages. Preceding the main work is a detailed grammar of what the author calls "Neutral Language," or Idiom Neutral, describing its pronunciation, orthography, and usage across parts of speech, including a chapter on word formation. The author goes on to describe the benefits of using Neutral Language: books or publications written using it can be read in their original language by nearly anyone without much prior study; it does not require translation; it has a much broader possible audience; and it can therefore be printed in greater quantities and at a lower cost. The author argues that this language can be used not only for written communication but also for spoken conversation, as demonstrated at medical conferences and among stamp collectors. This book is a fascinating study of language and is of interest not only to linguists but also to anyone interested in international communication, translation, and language study. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9781330194331_0
