Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book extends the framework of categorical logic, adding four new forms to the common ones of A, E, I, and O. These four are: a, B, 7 and e. The original ones are called Aristotelian and the latter non-Aristotelian or semi-Aristotelian. Notably, these new forms demonstrate that the traditional Aristotelian ones are not the only possible set of categorical forms, and are in fact a special case within a broader logical framework. These new forms are defined, and their relationships to each other and to the original forms are examined. The implications, postulates, and theorems of the new forms are derived, and the rules for the deduction of the moods of immediate inference and the syllogism are given in detail. The work ends with a genealogy of the new forms in the history of logic, and reflections on how they connect to and depart from the traditional Aristotelian ones.
