Challenging the history in Daniel with careful, documentary evidence. This scholarly work examines the historical statements in the Book of Daniel and explores related chronological, geographical, and philosophical questions. It shows how to test objections by weighing sources, comparing documents, and using reasoned analysis.
The volume lays out a clear method: present an objection, state the underlying assumptions, provide documentary evidence, and draw conclusions grounded in testimony. It also explains how a careful reading of Hebrew, Aramaic, and other sources can illuminate why certain claims about Daniel may or may not be valid, without guessing beyond the text.

This volume is concerned especially with the objections made to the historical statements contained in the book of Daniel, and treats incidentally of chronological, geographical, and philosophical questions. In a second volume, it is my intention to discuss the objections made against the book on the ground of philological assumptions based on the nature of the Hebrew and Aramaic in which it is written. In a third volume, I shall discuss Daniel srelation to the canon of the Old Testament as determining the date of the book, and in connection with this the silence of Ecclesiasticus with reference to Daniel, the alleged absence of an observable influence of Daniel upon post-captivity literature, and the whole matter of apocalyptic literature, especially in its relation to predictive prophecy. The method pursued is to give first of all a discussion of some of the principles involved in the objections considered in the pages following; then, to state the objections with the assumptions on which they are based; next, to give the reasons why these assumptions are adjudged to be false; and, lastly, to sum up in a few words the conclusions to be derived from the discussion.

Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the historical accuracy of the Old Testament's Book of Daniel, addressing objections raised against its chronological, geographical, and philosophical assertions. The author meticulously examines criticisms aimed at the book, exploring the underlying assumptions and confronting them with historical evidence from various sources, including Assyrian, Babylonian, Egyptian, and Hebrew documents. By comparing accounts from different ancient civilizations, the author demonstrates how the absence of supporting evidence in one record does not necessarily negate the validity of another. The book delves into specific objections, such as the existence of Daniel as a historical figure and the accuracy of events like Nebuchadnezzar's expedition against Jerusalem. It navigates through complex historical details, including the use of the word "king" in Semitic languages, the identification of Belshazzar, and the existence of Darius the Mede. The book challenges the notion that pronouncements and decrees by ancient rulers, as depicted in Daniel, were implausible, drawing parallels with historical edicts from various empires. By presenting a comprehensive analysis of historical and linguistic evidence, this book offers valuable insights into the Book of Daniel, reaffirming its significance within the broader context of ancient history and literature. Ultimately, it underscores the importance of rigorous historical investigation and the limitations of arguments based solely on the absence of evidence. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
