Compilations of meclic:il poems have been issued in France by Dr. G. J. Witkowski and in Germany by Dr. Ludwig Heymann and others. In theE nglish tongue none has heretofore appeared, and this must be looked upon as a novelty. The purpose of my book is to amuse the busy doctor in leisure hours. Some of the serious poems will no doubt furnish food for reflection. I hope the profession will read this book with pleasure. I wish most sincerely to thank those gentlemen who have aided me in the preparation of this book, and without whose kind help the work would not have been completed.
